For the past few weeks, the SPCA de l’Outaouais and 3R Québec have been collaborating on a pilot project to exchange and redistribute food. This initiative helps combat food waste while making a tangible contribution to the well-being of people and their pets in our community.

A simple yet promising collaboration

The partnership works like this: every week, the 3R Québec team comes to the SPCA de l’Outaouais to drop off a basket of vegetables and, depending on availability, picks up bags of pet food.

The amount of food available varies from week to week. Some days, several bags can be delivered, while at other times, quantities are more limited. Regardless of the number, each bag can make a real difference for someone who is struggling to provide for their pet.

The collected food is then incorporated into 3R Québec’s distribution efforts for people in vulnerable situations.

Helping animals also means helping their owners

For many people, their pet is an important source of comfort, companionship, and stability. However, when financial resources become more limited, the cost of food can become an additional challenge.

By making pet food more accessible, this partnership helps people keep their companions by their side, even during difficult times.

It’s a concrete way of recognizing that animal well-being and human well-being are closely linked.

Giving food a second life

This collaboration also helps make better use of food that isn’t always needed for the SPCA’s operations.
