Job description:

Help maintain and clean the shelter independently and responsibly. The Animal Care Assistant will be responsible for daily housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean, pleasant and healthy environment for the animals.

Task description:

• Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of animal enclosures, cages, and facilities.
• Perform various housekeeping tasks, including washing dishes, laundry, and cleaning and disinfecting the animals’ living spaces (cages, enclosures, etc.).
• Maintain a healthy and pleasant environment for the animals by ensuring the cleanliness of the premises and the daily hygiene of the facilities.

Job responsibilities:

Provide essential support to the adoption counselors by performing various tasks, including:

• Organization: Help organize the reception areas and work zones, ensuring that documents, equipment, and animals are well-organized and accessible.
• Customer Service: Assist adoption counselors by providing information to potential adopters, answering their questions, and facilitating interactions.
• Animal Handling: Participate in the safe handling of animals, following protocols for interactions with the animals, especially when meeting with adopters or visiting the animals in the different areas of the shelter.
• Documentation: Assist with managing animal records, completing necessary adoption forms, updating animal information, and ensuring proper documentation management.
• Cleaning: Contribute to space maintenance by cleaning areas used by animals and adopters, ensuring a clean and safe environment.

Volunteer Counselor’s Assistant duties:

• Supervise meetings between the selected cat and the client.
• Prepare and complete adoption documents.
• Make necessary copies for the file.
• Prepare the adoption kit and food for the cat.
• Assemble adoption boxes.
• Accompany the client to the reception for further steps and assist with selecting items from the boutique.
• Place the adopted cat in the adoption cage or box.
• Empty the cat’s cage and place a “À nettoyer” sign.
• Organize and clean the consultation room.
• Accompany the client to their car, if needed.

• Enrich and stimulate the cats mentally and physically.
  • Pet the cats in their cages to calm them.
  • Play actively with the cats to stimulate them and promote their well-being.
• Provide treats : Offer treats appropriately to encourage trust and reward positive behaviors.
• Groom the cats.
  • Regularly brush the cats to maintain their coat clean and healthy.
  • Report any additional grooming needs, such as tangled fur or signs of skin issues.
• Participate in the upkeep of the spaces : Clean up messes in the cages or cat areas as needed to ensure a clean and pleasant environment.

Job responsibilities:

• Enrich and stimulate the dogs mentally and physically:
  • Take the dogs for walks or runs in the yard or in front of the shelter to provide adequate physical exercise.
  • Actively play with the dogs to stimulate them, enhance their wellbeing, and provide positive interaction.
• Put on harnesses and leashes for certain dogs to prepare them for walks or outings.
• Give treats: Offer treats appropriately to encourage trust and reward positive behaviors in the dogs.
• Report any grooming needs or health issues: Observe the dogs and report any care needs or health problems (injuries, signs of illness, abnormal behavior).
• Participate in maintaining the spaces:
  • Clean up any messes in the enclosures as needed to ensure a clean and pleasant environment for the dogs.
  • Pick up after the dogs to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the outdoor areas and enclosures.
