Here are some types of bequests you might consider to support your favorite animal shelter:

• Specific bequest: You can designate a specific sum of money, real estate or personal property to be bequeathed to the shelter.
• Universal bequest: You can decide to give all your assets to one or more people and/or charities.
• Residual bequest: After taking care of your loved ones and other designated beneficiaries, you can bequeath some or all of the remainder of your estate to the shelter.
• Subsidiary bequest: This type of bequest takes effect only if the other beneficiaries named in your will die before you.
• Life insurance: You can name the shelter as beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
• Endowment fund: You can set up an endowment fund in your will to support the shelter’s long-term activities.

• In the donation form, select the option ” Make this donation in honour or in memory of someone” and enter the name of the person you wish to honor.
• You can also invite the deceased’s loved ones to make a donation in his or her memory. You could use a phrase like this: “In lieu of flowers, please consider an in memoriam donation to the SPCA de l’Outaouais. This can be done online.”
