GATINEAU, May 4, 2026As part of their ongoing collaboration, the SPCA de l’Outaouais and the City of Gatineau will be launching a largescale animal census across the city beginning Monday, May 4, 2026, and continuing through the fall. This initiative will involve a sustained mobilization of the SPCA’s field team throughout the season.

The SPCA de l’Outaouais, in partnership with the City of Gatineau, is announcing the deployment of an animal census operation that will begin in the Gatineau sector before gradually expanding to all sectors over the next three years. The objective of this initiative is to confirm the presence of companion animals—dogs, cats, and miniature pigs—and to ensure licensing records are up to date.

During this period, clearly identified SPCA de l’Outaouais census agents will visit residences to assist residents with the process. Agents will be able to help with the purchase or renewal of an animal licence, when required.

This census will improve knowledge of the animal population within the city, support the enforcement of municipal by‑laws, and strengthen services offered to the community. An animal licence is an essential tool for quickly reuniting lost pets with their families and helps fund the animal welfare services provided by the SPCA de l’Outaouais.

Licensing is mandatory for companion animals throughout the City of Gatineau. Residents are therefore encouraged to collaborate by welcoming census agents and ensuring that their animal information is up to date.
