GATINEAU, June 19, 2025 – It is with great emotion that the SPCA de l’Outaouais announces the creation of the Amy McInnes – Volunteer of the Year Award, in tribute to Amy Lindsay Marie McInnes, a young woman with a huge heart who dedicated her life to animal welfare.
Amy passed away on September 23, 2023, at the age of 23, leaving behind a huge void in the hearts of her loved ones and all those who had the good fortune to know her. Affected by Prader-Willi syndrome, she never let her condition limit her commitment. On the contrary, she was a constant source of inspiration, a ball of energy and joy for the animals she loved deeply—horses, dogs, cats—and for the humans around her.
Thanks to the unwavering support of her mother, Angela J. Whelan, Amy devoted herself body and soul to helping vulnerable animals, especially abandoned dogs and orphaned kittens. To honor her memory and continue her commitment, a donation was made to the SPCA de l’Outaouais, allowing for the creation of this award, which will be presented each year to a volunteer who has distinguished themselves through their dedication and generosity.
Lisa Thériault, 2025 winner of the Amy McInnes – Volunteer of the Year Award
The very first recipient of this award is Lisa Thériault, a volunteer who has been involved with our shelter for nearly 15 years. With her energy, contagious good humor, and heart as big as the world, Lisa is a true driving force on the team.
Officially an adoption counselor, she wears many hats: administrative support for our partners, consultations, animal transportation, foster family… not to mention her famous wine bottle collections, which raise funds to provide external veterinary care for our protégés.
Curious, versatile, and always ready to take on new challenges, Lisa perfectly embodies the values of mutual aid and compassion that are at the heart of our mission. Her contribution is invaluable, both to the humans and animals she cares for with such compassion.
Thanks to people like Lisa, hundreds of animals find comfort and a second chance every year. You too can make a difference: a donation, large or small, helps us continue our essential mission: www.spcaoutaouais.ca/en/get-involved/make-a-donation/. Thank you from all our boarders!
