Hi there, I’m Théo! 🐾

At 5 years old, I clearly got the memo that said it’s okay to slow down a bit… but I didn’t read it! 😄 I’m an energetic dog who loves a busy day, but I also need a calm environment, a stable routine, and humans who will respect my pace.

I love walks, hikes, activities that make me think, food-enrichment plays, and chewing. About 1 to 2 hours of activity per day should meet my needs. 🐶🧠

Even though I have a lot of energy, I can be fearful in new environments and around people I don’t know. At the shelter, loud or sudden noises, rapid movements, enclosures, and stressful situations can make me hypervigilant. When that happens, I might tense up, pant, try to avoid the situation, or have trouble calming down.

But the good news is that I’ve made tremendous progress since I arrived! 🥰 I now seek human contact much more, and once I trust someone, I become very affectionate and much less stressed. When it’s time to leave my kennel, getting down to my level can help me feel more confident. And once I’m reassured, I let people handle and hold me without any trouble.

I also have a few things left to learn. I already know “sit,” but I tend to jump, so I’ll need to continue my training. House training can’t be guaranteed at first, so constant supervision will be important while I’m adjusting to my new home.

My previous family also mentioned that I might be protective of my food. That’s why I’m looking for a family without children under 12, who will respect my space and establish good habits around mealtimes. 🥣🐾

I can live with another dog, but a preliminary meet-and-greet is required. Living with a dog of the opposite sex is recommended, and constant supervision will be important at first. I haven’t been tested with cats yet.

Ideally, I’m looking for a family with experience with dogs, who are home most of the time, and who can provide me with a predictable, calm, and stable daily routine. A home with a fenced yard, in the countryside or in a quiet neighborhood, would be particularly well-suited to my needs.

I’m up for humanitarian adoption due to suspected hip dysplasia and an unusual gait. My future family will therefore need to be prepared to provide ongoing veterinary care and adapt my daily routine to my needs.

I’m a good boy who’s already come a long way. 💙 I just need time, trust, and patient people who’ll let me discover my new world at my own pace. Once I feel safe, I show a whole different side of myself: that of an affectionate dog who loves being close to his humans.
