Hi, my name is Buttercup! ✨

I am a beautiful dog, probably an American bulldog mix, and I melt everyone’s hearts at the shelter. You’re sure to fall in love with me! I can be a little shy at first, with my tail between my legs, but as soon as I realize you’re nice, I become a real lover of humans and back scratches. 💛

I am suitable for motivated first-time adopters who are willing to invest time in my training and, if necessary, take classes with a professional. I could work well with children aged 6 and up, but proper management with fences or barriers will be important, as I am sensitive to noises and people I don’t know yet. My temperament with very young children is unknown.

I could possibly live with other dogs, especially a companion of the opposite sex and with a similar energy level. Gradual introductions, with breaks and constant supervision at first, will be essential. Living with cats or other animals has not been tested and, given my breed, is not recommended. 🙅‍♀️

I am looking for a family that plans to devote time to my training and is willing to work with dog behaviorists if necessary. A calm environment is important to me, without too many visitors, loud noises, or comings and goings. Apartments or condos are not ideal, as I can be vocal when I am bored or craving attention! A fenced-in yard would be perfect for my quiet games.

My energy level is low to moderate: less than an hour of exercise a day is enough for me, especially in the form of games at home or in the yard. I also love to chew, so make sure you have plenty of good toys for me! You’ll also need to pay attention to my weight to keep me healthy.

I let myself be handled, even if I’m a little reluctant at first because I’m fearful, but it goes well with gentleness and patience. At the shelter, we noticed that I pull on the leash and sometimes bark, two things that will need to be worked on. Good news: no signs of reactivity have been noted so far. 😊

I haven’t yet learned to walk well on a leash, so I pull a lot, but with a suitable harness, consistency, and gentle training, I will make great progress. The help of a professional dog behaviorist would be ideal to accompany me on this wonderful adventure.

I am up for humanitarian adoption due to hip dysplasia. It will be essential to keep me at a healthy weight to reduce the impact on my joints, and a consultation with an orthopedic veterinarian is strongly recommended to establish a treatment and follow-up plan tailored to my needs, with the goal of ensuring my comfort and long-term quality of life. ❤️‍🩹

I dream of a calm, attentive, and loving family who will take the time to reassure me and show me the world at my own pace. In return, I will offer you tons of love, gentleness, and cuddles. 🐾
